School camp

School camp

So a few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to go to camp with the Years 9s of our whanau as a Peer Support Leader. And honestly, it was one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences of my life. I never realised how much impact and influence I could have on other people, especially young teens. We had such a great time at camp and it was so cool to see how the energy my leader and I put into our camp group was resonated and reflected back to us. What I found most interesting about the experience was that even after camp, our bond with the Years 9s continued to grow at school, even the ones not in my group! And even though we may not have much to talk about, they always take the time to say hi to us and honestly, that’s beautiful, I never realised that the time and energy we put into creating a positive and trusting atmosphere with our Year 9s had this much impact. We are approachable older students to them, people they can trust, and I have never been prouder of a bunch of kids. When you have expend positive energy on someone, it will resonate and come back to you. Stay loving, stay caring, and don’t forget to #empathise #empower #embrace.
